In November of 2013, the developer FiftyThree officially unveiled a brand new stylus that was meant specifically for their app, Paper, to make drawing even easier.Since its launch, Pencil by FiftyThree has become a popular accessory for the iPad, even if it is meant only for one app. Indeed, the stylus’s usefulness shot up after the launch of iOS 8, too, with new features geared towards using the accessory even easier and more comfortable, with more control while putting down digital ink and colors. Looking ahead, FiftyThree brought out its own Pencil SDK, in hopes of opening up the accessory’s compatibility with apps on Apple’s tablet lineup.
Pencil by FiftyThree has traditionally been available only from FiftyThree’s website, but over the last few weeks the accessory has begun trickling out into some Apple Retail stores across the United States. Now, an official announcement marks the arrival of the stylus in all Apple Retail stores, as well as being available through Apple’s online store as well. The stylus will be available in Apple Retail stores within Canada, the European Union, and within the United Kingdom. A global rollout is still in the works:
“It’s been quite a ride bringing Pencil to creators around the globe; first online and now in Apple US, Canada, UK and EU, with worldwide availability coming soon.“
There are two models of Pencil, one in graphite which retails for $49.95, while the walnut option costs $59.95.
