Telecom regulatory authority of india issued directive to all telecom operators of India to stop charging additional on Blackout days for SMS and calls. it's currently a practice that operators are charging additional on SMS and calls on festival days which is announced as Blackout days.
But as per the directive of TRAI, it's mentioned that Operators shouldn't charge additional Tariff for Calls and SMS that is more than the base tariff of the customer under any circumstances. this will give additional trasparency of charge especially on the black out days.
Currently as per the directive of TRAI - Operators will choose five festival days as black out days around the year. however this must be predefined before the year starts and also the same must be displayed on the web site of the respective operator. Blackout days, once outlined can't be modified around the year. the information about the base tariff charging should be intimated to the customers well in advance.
