Leading up to the official launch of the Apple Watch, designers and developers have been buried within the WatchKit SDK trying to get their apps ready for the wearable’s arrival on the market.Despite having access to the WatchKit SDK, legitimate news regarding the apps that are coming down the pipe, how they might look and how they might function on the new device, have been uncommon. We’ve seen some mockups, at least, including from Apple directly regarding bezel sizes on the Watch’s variants. We’ve even seen some looks at the Companion App that will launch alongside the Watch later this year. We have seen what some apps will look like in early drafts, and at least one designer has given us a look at what apps might be able to do as extensions of their iPhone counterparts on the smaller display.
Games, though, have been a bit of a mystery up until this point. While the one-day battery life for the Watch may seem counterproductive to waste on gaming, the smaller display does allow for some developers to create some interesting titles. That includes NimbleBit, the developer behind an upcoming Watch game called Letterpad.
The new game was revealed by TouchArcade, and it’s a title that works as a simple word game, which will showcase a gird of nine letters on the display, and the player needs to create words related to a specific term that is presented at the top, just above the grid. The title is still in development, but a mockup has been created to show off what the game might look like when it debuts.
This will not be the last game that we see presented on the Watch, and it will certainly be interesting to see what developers come up with.
