The Union Budget 2012 is currently being termed as a non-event but consumers should get ready to pay more for their monthly mobile bills. The country's over 900 million mobile phone users will have to shell out more money on their bills with the proposed hike in service tax rate to 12 percent from 10 percent in the Budget on Today

"We are very disappointed with increase in service tax. Industry has been under attack for raising (tariff) but this time government itself has raised service tax which will take phone service charges up," GSM industry body COAI's Director General Rajan S Mathews said.

Telecom service provider MTS India said that the increase in service tax is going to mainly hit CDMA customers as most of them belong to low-income group.
