On February 5, a report surfaced that pointed to an imminent acquisition of Sunrise, what’s arguably one of the best calendar apps available for iOS, by Microsoft. Now, on February 11, Microsoft has made the acquisition official. The initial rumors of the acquisition suggested Microsoft would be spending upwards of $100 million for the purchase, but while the announcement has been made, the financial details still remain in the dark. The company made the announcement via a YouTube video the company published to its official page earlier on Wednesday. Unfortunately, as of the time of this writing, the video is private.
Microsoft has been busy with major app purchases of as of late. The company recently purchased Acomplii as well, a popular email app for iOS. As it stands right now, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that Sunrise will be pulled from the App Store. However, it would seem reasonable to expect that Microsoft plans on merging the features within Sunrise into its existing services, including the brand new Outlook app.
