GSM operators add 6.87 million users in March

Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) today released India’s ‘GSM Subscriber Figures for March 2012.GSM operators added more than 6.87 million new mobile subscribers in the month of March’12 compared to 8.7mn in Feb’12 excluding Reliance and Tata GSM numbers. The total number of GSM subscribers in the country crossed 664 million as against 657.22 million in February.

Bharti Airtel, India’s biggest mobile phone operator, added 2.5 million subscribers in March for a total of 181.27 million users, COAI, which represents operators that use the GSM standard, said in a statement on Monday. Vodafone added 1 million users, thus taking its subscribers base to 150.46 million.



Uninor continues to add attractive number of subscribers and last month it added 1.2 mn customers. Vodafone garnered 1 mn new subscribers while state run telecom PSU BSNL added 8.9 lakh customers in the same month. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) added 62,399 subscribers to have total of 5.59 million subscribers.
