Facebook today announced a partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that will allow it to display AMBER alerts on the News Feed of its users to help find missing childrens.

The AMBER alerts will be delivered to the News Feed of Facebook users who are in the area related to the alert. The alert will only be displayed once the National Center has issued an alert on their behalf. The alert displayed will contain relevant information like the photograph and name of the missing child, their description, a contact number, and abductor’s description.

The alerts will be shown on desktop as well as on mobile for Facebook users. However, they will not receive any notification for it. Users will also be able to share the alerts directly with their friends, which will include a link to the National Center’s missing child poster.

The area of each AMBER alert is determined by the law enforcement, so the number of alerts a user will see during a year will depend on the alerts issued in their area.

In 2014, an 11-year old child was recovered after a motel owner identified her via an AMBER alert that was shared on Facebook.
