News / Mobile phones Did iOS 8.1.3 fix the problems on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch?

Apple released iOS 8.1.3 yesterday, which includes bug fixes, increased stability and performance improvements.

iOS 8.1.3 addresses one of the biggest annoyances with software updates since iOS 8. It no longer needs as much space to perform software update. You had to update your iOS device using iTunes. Apple doesn’t say the required storage space was reduced by how much, but The Verge reports that they were able to install iOS 8.1.3 on a 16GB iPad mini that only had 445MB of space available. That’s a very significant reduction in requieed storage space when you consider that the iOS 8 software update needed 6.9GB.

I am also glad that Apple has fixed the issue that caused Spotlight to stop displaying app results. I use Spotlight to launch apps on my device that are not on the first Home screen, and it was quite annoying when it stopped working. Though I’ve noticed some lag while displaying app icons in Spotlight’s search results, but it is not a major issue.

Apple has also fixed the issue which prevented multitasking gestures from working on iPad, which seems to be affecting some users.

A number of users were facing a problem with Wi-Fi after the iOS 8 update, but Apple hasn’t explicitly mentioned if the update fixes Wi-Fi related issues like OS X Yosemite 10.2.2, which was also released yesterday. One of our readers reported that it did not fix the Wi-Fi issue.

iOS 8.1.3 also seems to reduce the lag seen while switching orientation. When you switched from portrait to landscape mode while watching a YouTube video, there was a noticeable lag. It seems better but can be improved further. It is also not clear if the issue is with the YouTube app or iOS.

Some users have reported some odd issues like this localization bug where the value is not getting updated, and is showing the place holder instead.
