The Mac is one of the areas that has continued to be solid for Apple over the last several quarters, and that momentum has continued into the holiday shopping season according to a new report. As revealed by a new Gartner report outlining PC shipments made in the United States over the fourth quarter, Apple’s Mac lineup saw another quarter of growth. The report indicates that Apple shipped over 2.1 million Macs in the fourth quarter of 2014, which shows an 11.5 percent increase from the third quarter of 2014 where Apple shipped 1.9 million units.
The report also shows that while the quarter showed more growth for Apple, the company is still trailing the rest of the PC market as a whole, which resulted in a share of only 11.7 percent. That’s down from the 11.9 percent Apple held in the fourth quarter of 2013. However, that does put Apple in the third spot, according to Gartner, with Dell and HP in the second and first place positions.
The overall market saw 18.1 million units shipped in the fourth quarter of 2014, which is a 13.1% increase when compared to the same quarter 2013. Hewlett-Packard, for what it’s worth, showed the biggest growth of all the other companies with a 26.2 percent increase from last year’s same quarter. Lenovo, too, saw a big increase from the year’s prior quarter, with a 21.6 percent increase.
