Apple’s been making a push to being one of the most popular sources for digital content for several years now, including books with its iBooks platform.

Now, according to Keith Moerer, Director of iBooks Store, speaking at the Digital Books World Conference, iBooks is seeing quite a bit of attention and adoption, especially now that the app — iBooks — is preinstalled on iOS devices running iOS 8. According to Moerer, the company has seen “about 1 million” new customers a week since the launch of iOS in September, 2014. Moerer also mentioned that Family Sharing, a new feature within iOS 8 as well, has led to a spurt of growth for iBooks as well, thanks to the ability to share that content with up to six accounts within the family.

As far as a regional look of iBooks goes, Moerer says that Japan is actually the fastest growing market for Apple’s book endeavor:

French publishers are having a big impact in the Canadian market, as revealed through discussions during the DBWC, and overall the Canadian iBooks market is doing quite well for itself. Finally, Moerer noted that independent publishing is a huge growth area for iBooks.
