It was revealed early on Tuesday that Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, would be speaking at the Goldman Sachs Computer and Technology Conference.

During that talk, Cook revealed a major investment that the company has just made with First Solar, to which Apple is officially announcing today. With the new partnership, which Cook calls Apple’s “most ambitious project ever,” the giant, 1,300-acre solar farm will be located in Monterey Farm, and will be used to not only power the brand new Campus 2, but also just about everything else Apple related in the California area.

Cook says that the new solar farm, which was an $850 million investment, will provide energy for all of Apple’s 52 retail stores, every other office the company has in California, as well as the data center in Newark, California.

Speaking about climate change in general, Cook said,

Climate change is real and the time for talk has passed.

Apple’s focus on renewable energy, and other areas focused on improving the quality of the planet, has been a strong point for the company over the last several years, so this investment seems like a logical next step for Apple.
